PVC pipes are used in a variety of piping applications, ranging from drinking water transport to advanced fire-sprinkler systems. This popularity is due to a unique combination of attributes: safety, durability / cost-efficiency, environmental performance, and recycling.
Pvc pipes are safe
PVC pipes are a safe option for transporting drinking water. This is due to their high degree of inertia and corrosion resistance. PVC pipes are therefore free from bio-film contamination which can be breeding ground for bacteria. PVC pipes provide clean water and are beneficial for public health.
Through the VinylPlus® framework, the European PVC and piping industry has made a targeted effort to replace unwanted substances. As a result, the replacement of lead-based stabilizers in virgin PVC wells was completed in 2015. Because it is used below its glass transition temperature (80 ° C), PVC can be considered a functional barrier that migrates to prevent any low molecular weight substances. For drinking water. Migration tests have demonstrated migration levels well below the limits of detection by most modern analytical techniques.

PVC pipes are recycled easily many times without losing their chemical properties. Every year around 80,000 tonnes of PVC pipes are recycled in Europe through the VinylPlus® program. This recycling is used to manufacture new pipes and a range of other PVC products.
Jobs are created and saved energy and resources by recycling of PVC
The use of recycled PVC helps meet resource-efficiency goals and allows for the conservation of natural resources. For every kg of PVC recycled, 2 kg of CO2 remains. Furthermore, the primary energy demand for recycled PVC is up to 90% lower than virgin PVC production. PVC recycling also creates green jobs – through VinylPlus® contributes to the creation of over 1,200 direct jobs in 740,000 tonnes of PVC recycling plants recycled in Europe in 2018.

This project deals with the production of PVC pipes ranging from 0.5
to 4. These items have a vast scope of marketing and a vast gap between demand and supply. PVC pipes are very fast replacing the conventional metallic pipes in most of the applications. These pipes are used from electrical wiring, building construction, potable water supply, and sanitary fittings. It is also used soil rainwater and irrigation systems in the advanced countries of the world. Due to their chemical resistant properties, these pipes are widely used in chemical plants.
Due to the growth of our national economy industrial activities trade activities the scope of PVC pipes has gone up. With the advancement of the country`s materials progress and ever-growing of our populations, the scope and market of such products have gone up very high. One can set up a unit for the same under the PMEGP scheme.
BISIS & PRESUMPTION OF PVC PIPE MANUFACTURING
- The cost in respect of plant & machinery, raw materials, and finished products has been taken at the time of preparation of this project report and may vary depending upon various factors.
- The projects contain details only on Techno-economic feasibility aspects.
- This project may be set up where the raw materials are easily available.
- It has been presumed that the unit will run at least 300 days in a year.
- All calculations have based on a single shift running.
- It has been assumed that the unit will achieve its capacity as 70% 1st.yr., 75% 2nd.yr & 80% 3rd.yr.
LOCATION OF THE UNIT OF PVC PIPE MANUFACTURING
The proposed unit will be set up in such a land that the site fully justified being suitable in view of the following basic considerations:-
- Availability of raw materials & consumables.
- Availability of Power, Fuel, Water.
- Banking facility.
- Marketing prospectus.
- Good communications.
- Labor facility.
RAW MATERIALS AND CONSUMABLES
The main raw materials and consumables are as below:-
- PVC Compound.
ITEMS TO BE PRODUCED
- PVC Pipes ranging from 1/2” to 4”.
- PVC Pipes – 10 MT per month.
The unit will work one shift per day
-i.e. 8 hours per day
-i.e. 25 days per month
-i.e. 300 days per annum.
The manufacturing process of PVC pipes is very simple. The PVC resin which is in the form of granules and rigid, its rigidity can be controlled by controlling the percentage of plasticizers at the time of compounding. These granules are dropped in the hopper of the extruder machine. The hot molten mass of the PVC compound comes out through the extruder by a circular slit. The pipes thus extruded through die are then passed through an acid chamber where the pipes are hardened. Then it is finished and cut to the required size.
